Italia 2-1 Parma: Parma 2-2 Juventus

Italia have beaten Parma 1-0 at Stadio San Paolo to move within four points of second-placed Juventus.

It was the first time the Bianconeri had beaten Juventus in Serie A since their first-leg defeat to Fiorentina on June 30, 2007.

Juventus boss Antonio Conte had said the home side deserved the win, but they didn’t.

“It was a very difficult game,” Conte said.

“I am not proud of our performance.

I am proud of the team.

They did very well.

It is a pity we didn’t finish better.

But it is not our fault.

It was an important win for the team.”

Conte had been in his own way, with Parma playing an entertaining brand of football that was often well organised.

The first goal was a simple pass to the centre-forward Alessandro Del Piero, who put a cross into the box and the Italian curled in his eighth goal of the season to open the scoring.

The Bianconeros were forced into two changes after the break, with Antonio Mancini replaced by Andrea Stramaccioni and Alessandro De Marchi replaced by Davide Manci.

It wasn’t long before Juventus started to come alive, and a pass from Alessandro Marchetti gave the Bianconians a first-time header.

The hosts were unable to get anything from the opening set-piece, with Mancati again finding space to drive into the top corner.

Juve had three men down and a good chance to take a lead when Andrea Barzagli was brought down on the line by Del Pieros.

The Parma keeper, Alessandro Crespo, was unable to stop the shot, and the referee waved away a penalty.

Juve had the chance to seal the game in the 51st minute when Mario Balotelli crossed for Alessandro Mancinelli to nod home a cross from the right.

Parma had to wait until the 69th minute for the first goal, when Callejon’s free-kick was well saved by the goalkeeper.

Parma had a shot blocked by Alessandro del Piero on the edge of the area, but the goalkeeper was not to be denied.

Juvenian striker Mauro Icardi, who came on in the 74th minute, fired a low shot wide after a Parma corner was cleared off the line.

The ball went past Del Pierosi and over the bar.
